BINDE • BAND 1/5 (2023)
BINDE•BAND is a mixed-media installation that weaves together personal history, emotion, and the act of binding through both physical and metaphorical ties. The work consists of various elements such as written notes, letters, embroidery, and paint, begun in 2007 and continually evolving. The concept of a "Binde-Band," a ribbon or thread used to tie clothing or other material, is used symbolically to explore relationships, connections, and commitments.
In the context of this exhibitiin, the artwork features oval or egg shaped wooden platforms supporting diverse materials—ranging from paper-like sculptures to a web-like design, all juxtaposed with the wall-hung embroidery on graph paper works. These forms resonate with the idea of binding, as they visually and conceptually connect different elements and layers, just as a Binde-Band ties two ends together. The intricate web design evokes a sense of enclosure and connection, mirroring the emotional or relational bindings referenced in the textual concept of the piece.
This ongoing work extending into space, inviting the viewer to explore both physical materials and the deeper conceptual ties of love, commitment, and collaboration.
