BLUE FELT

2013 • MATERIALS: HAND DYED FELT / STEEL MESH / SEWING THREAD / COBALT BLUE HOUSEHOLD PAINT

SIZE: 2 x 50 x 50 cm

BLUE FELT is a minimalist two-piece installation composed of 2.5 mm steel mesh, hand-dyed felt, sewing thread, and cobalt household paint. The work contrasts the rigid structure of the steel mesh with the softness of the felt, which is dyed in deep cobalt hues. One piece, hung on the wall, features a square grid of steel with a felt centerpiece, meticulously sewn into the center of the grid. The second piece, placed on the floor, is a circular felt form, mirroring the cobalt blue from the wall installation, creating a visual dialogue between geometric precision and tactile warmth.

Further, it explores the tension between structure and softness. The rigid steel mesh represents order and boundaries, while the hand-dyed felt introduces warmth and imperfection. The cobalt blue evokes depth and introspection, contrasting the precise grid with the felt's organic, tactile presence. The circular blue floor piece, painted in cobalt, extends the balance between opposites—softness and rigidity, logic and emotion—inviting the viewer to reflect on dualities in both the physical and mental realms. The work encourages quiet contemplation in the midst of these contrasts.
