ON FRAGMENTS

Fragments are like puzzle pieces - individual elements belonging to a larger whole - “a small part broken off or separated from something larger - like "small fragments of pottery,” for example.

I am sharing my shortstory L’Écriture d’Été as fragments for a number of reason. Some are litterary, some are artistic, some are practical, some are organisational, and last some are for educational needs.

• The litterary fragment cones out of a poetic and philosophical tradition which I find immensely interesting and challenging. It seems to me to be the better reflection of how life plays out. With tegards to my shortstory I liked to bring out a kind of metaplay on the already short story, by only bringing shorter elements on a daily basis. A fragment within a fragment - a system of fractals.

• Artistic fragments allows for spaces between compositional elements which in turn gives space and quiet for the reading brain to not just follow the outline of the nattators idea of the story, but enable the reader’s brain to associate and bring forth other possible narratives.

• Sharing large bits of writing on Social Media is for most readers too big a mouthful, and would defeat the above mentioned reasons to experiment with text and image online.

• With regards to learning, I wanted to experiment with sharing my writing and my visual art and to feel comfortable sharing it on Social Media.

Last, Kintsugoroi, the ancient Japanese technique of repairing broken pottery runs deep as a philosophical undercurrent in all my work. The way the old gets a new and often way more beautiful place in our lives, having been repaired with a gokd paste that runs like veins crisscross the ceramic object.
